Day 32

Image
Mission South Found a really pleasant walk this morning heading south from Mission South beach. Partly boardwalk and stairs and then several kms along a deserted beach with pristine white sand.  We were hoping to see another Cassawory but no such luck. Bird life and native flowers were on display. A wander along here is good for the soul. Bedarra Island on the left under clear blue skies. Small un air conditioned bungalows at Mission South caravan park close to the beach.

Day 31

Around Mission Beach  Last night we found a Thai restaurant for dinner and enjoyed a delicious meal. Interestingly we have seen no cockroaches, wasps, or mosquitoes and few flies. Although it is a public holiday in Queensland today, the cane haulers were out in force. In our tour through the cane fields the train lines were working overtime with long lines of carriages heading for the sugar processing factories.  In this case the refinery was at South Johnston which was in full production. This property in Crowley Beach is a steal for those that like a challenge. Even the delightful home next door which is part of the sale would suit even the most discerning purchaser. This church in Innisfail was impressive due to its size and architecture.  The cyclone of 1918 destroyed almost every building in Innisfail and we assume this one has been rebuilt since then.  Innisfail was originally named Geraldton but changed its name in 1910 when a ship confused towns and travelled to Geraldton in We

Bedarra Island is just a short boat trip away Block of units on Wongaling Beach

Day 29

Mission Beach Long walk along our sandy beach today, enjoying the gently lapping waves and crab holes in the firm sand. Lovely bunch of coconuts! A swim across to Dunk Island??? Boats for hire.  No licence required! Light lunch here at Mission Beach

Day 28

Image
Mission Beach  Drove out to Tully this morning and then on to Tully Heads and Hull Head to see how the fishermen were doing.  Plenty of large Barra being caught but also many small tinnies for sale most likely by disillusioned fishermen who have been not so successful. Then for a look at the sugar mill at Tully. This is how they did it in the early days.  This sign at the Golden Gumboot as recognition of the huge rainfall Tully receives each year.

Day 27

Image
Mission Beach Mission Beach, Wongaling and Mission Beach South are quite close to each other along the Cassowary Coast.  There are road signs at frequent intervals warning of possible cassowaries crossing. The terrain is quite flat, and the scenery sandy beaches, palm trees, rainforests, sugar cane fields and banana plantations. The boat ramp at Clump Point. View back towards the mainland from Clump Point. Looking towards Dunk Island from Mission Beach.

Day 26
